Deuteronomy 8:17 Beware lest you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.’ 18 You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
Two thoughts on this verse. One is that, without God, we can do nothing, and the fact that we exist is because of Him. Secondly, we are involved in the wealth that is obtained. God can do whatever he wants; he blesses, and he can also hinder or remove wealth for his purposes. The point we want to make here is that the verse says, "who gives you power to get wealth". Sure, God can dump wealth on you, but more than likely, He will bless the work of your hands. He will bless what you DO. In the book of James, it is written, "if anyone lacks wisdom, let him ask God... You can ask for God to bless you, but we think he wants us to use what he has given us to 'get wealth'.
